The basic lapidary skill is cabochon cutting, commonly called cabbing. New members of our club are encouraged to cut and polish at least three Cabochons before trying any other lapidary activity. This enables the new member to develop the skills of identifying and selecting suitable materials to cut and to learn how to correctly use lapidary machinery.
Cabochon cutting can be done by anyone who is over 12 years of age. Cutting cabochons requires some patience and hand eye coordination.
If your interested in learning how to cut and polish cabochons, contact the Gold Coast Lapidary Club for more information.
